Reflect, Refocus, Realign
Half the year has passed and if you’re anything like us, January probably feels both like yesterday and a lifetime ago. At the beginning of the year, we set intentions, made plans and imagined what the months ahead might look like. But sometimes life happens, and what felt like a straightforward path to success starts to feel a bit more complicated. Plans changed. Priorities shifted. Some goals moved forward, others didn't. Some routines stuck, while others have quietly disappeared.
This month's post is here to say that's okay!
July doesn't need to be a reminder of everything you haven't done yet. Instead, let it be a chance to look back at the past six months, recognise what you've learned, and decide what you want the next six months to feel like.
Look Back Before You Look Forward
Before setting new goals, take a moment to reflect and ask yourself:
What has gone well this year so far?
What am I proud of?
Which habits or routines have actually supported me?
What has felt difficult or draining?
What have I learned about myself?
Don't only measure progress by completed goals. Think about some of the small wins like maybe you've become more consistent, maybe you've learned to set better boundaries or even maybe you've realised that a goal you set in January no longer matters to you.
Keep What Works
We often approach a new month by adding more: more goals, more habits, more structure. Hoever maybe try asking:
What can I keep?
Look at your current routines and identify the things that genuinely make your life easier and keep those!
You don't need to reinvent your routine every month. Consistency comes from repeating what works.
Let Go of What Doesn't
A reset is also an opportunity to release. Perhaps you've been trying to maintain a routine that doesn't fit your current lifestyle, or maybe you've committed to too many goals at once. Or perhaps you're holding onto an expectation of where you thought you'd be by now.
This is the time and the space for you to give yourself permission to change direction.
Ask:
Is this still important to me?
If the answer is no, you don't have to keep pursuing it simply because you started. Changing your mind isn't failure, it's awareness and maturity.
Choose Your Priorities for July
Rather than creating a long list of things you want to accomplish, choose three areas to focus on.
They might be:
Personal — prioritising rest, health or relationships.
Professional — completing a project, developing a skill or creating better boundaries.
Practical — organising your finances, home, schedule or routines.
Create a Reset Ritual
Now that we've done some imprtant reflection, take 20–30 minutes to sit down with your planner or journal and try this simple reset:
1. Reflect
Write down three things you're proud of from the past 6 months.
2. Release
Write down one thing you want to stop carrying into the second half of the year.
3. Reconnect
Choose one goal that still feels meaningful.
4. Plan
Write down the key actions that will move you towards it.
5. Protect
Schedule time for rest, fun and the things that keep you feeling well.
The Gentle Reminder
Halfway through the year doesn't mean you're halfway behind.
There is still plenty of time.
You don't need to catch up.
You don't need to do everything at once.
Take what you've learned from the first half of the year and use it to move through the second half with a little more clarity and a little less pressure.
Reflect.
Refocus.
Realign.
Then take the next small step.
If you enjoyed this month's reflection, share it with someone who could use a mid-year reset. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to follow along on Instagram and TikTok.
Journal Prompt
Find a quiet moment with your journal and reflect on the month you've just had:
What worked well for me?
What didn't feel right?
What am I ready to leave behind?
What do I want more of in the month ahead?
If I could give myself one piece of advice for the next six months, what would it be?
And finally:
What is one small thing I can do this week that my future self will thank me for?
You don't need to have the rest of the year figured out, just make the next month count. 🤍
